Interstate 80 Pedestrian/Bicycle Overcrossing Feasibility Study
The City of Citrus Heights has received a grant to fund a feasibility study for improving pedestrian and bicycle access over Interstate 80 (I-80). This study has just begun and will rely on public participation. The first community meeting, held on September 16, 2015, at 6:00pm at Rusch Park (7801 Auburn Blvd.) in the Sunrise/Patio Room, was intended to inform the public of the project and obtain feedback. The next community meeting is schedule for Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at 6:00pm at Rusch Park. This meeting will present the community's feedback and preferred placement of the overcrossing.
In general, the feasibility study will look at right of way, environmental issues, safety, pedestrian and bike demand, cost, alternatives, grant opportunities and overall constructability. Local residents, property owners and businesses will play a very significant role in the selection, placement and alignment of an overcrossing as well as help determine what amenities will best serve the community's needs. The ultimate goal of this study is to use the input from the public and Caltrans to move the project forward as a grant application for design and construction. The City needs your input to help develop multiple options and compose the most feasible plan into a grant.
We encourage you to participate in the process, whether by attending the meetings, or contacting us with your input. If you are unable to attend the meetings but would like to be involved in the process, please review the map of the proposed overcrossing locations and then fill out the questionnaire to let us know what you think. The City is still welcoming feedback to help determine the best location for a pedestrian/bicycle crossing, so please contact us - we want to hear from you!
